Fibre diary - Diverticular disease.

Image
The fibre thing is really interesting. I have diverticular disease. This causes me pain in the lower left of my abdomen. The pain only last a very short time probably less than a minute. But it completely stops me in my tracks. I cannot talk I cannot complete the task I am doing when it strikes. This is very difficult for a customer facing job. My doctor has advised me to increase my fibre. So I’m keeping a diary of my fibre intake. I think I’m very good for fibre. This morning I had a banana and an oat-based cereal with dried fruit. For lunch I had lentil Dahl. So I’m thinking surely I’m pretty good I have a low meat diet high vegetable content diet lots of plant based protein. The average adult needs 30 g of fibre day. The average adult is getting 20 g of fibre a day. I am sure I must be above average. So here is my diary.  Monday 27th Feb 1 banana - 3 g 300g lentil Dahl - 3g fibre I oatcrunch with strawberries - 2.6 g fibre 2 thick slices of bread - white. 0.9g fibre. By lunchti...

Cesar Manrique and Salvador Dalí

Image
Visiting Jameos del agua I was reminded of Salvador Dalí. The turquoise pool, the palm tree all remind me of Salvador Dalí‘s work. The reflections of the lava tube in the pool with the albino lobsters all reminded me of Salvador Dalí. So convinced was I that Cesar manrique must’ve been inspired by Salvador Dalí that I looked them up. Cesar went to Art school in Madrid in 1945. It was  the  Art School of San Fernando . This Art School lists Salvador Dalí as a notable alumnus. So they both went to the same art school. It seems reasonable then that Cesar was inspired by Salvador or that both men had the same inspiration independently, having attended the same school of art. Salvador was there 23 years before Cesar, so his work came before Cesar’s. This is the Dali poster I had on my wall as a student: This is the pool in the lave tube at Jameos del agua: And this is the turquoise pool at Jameos del agua Do you see the similarity?

Lanzarote 2023

Image
My three favourite things from Lanzarote 2023 the turtle rescue, The albino lobsters and the surreal nature of  Jameos del agua, and how it reminded me of Salvador Dalí. As a student in 1991 I had a poster of a Salvador Dalí painting on the wall of my study bedroom. I was at Salford University reading biochemistry and I had very few belongings. I have no computer, I have no music making, recording or streaming device, I had no television, I had no fiction books. I often wished the university library held some reading books, but they didn’t. I had no phone. I had some posters on my wall. one was the seeing-eye poster where you go cross eyed at it until you see the image. my images was of Dolphins. And I had the Salvador Dalí poster which was of elephants and reflections. Last weeks holiday in Lanzarote was our 3rd or 4th visit, so I mostly wanted to see parts that I’d missed before, as well as a few favourites.  So we visited the Caldero of a volcano that had erupted in t...
