Small island developing states are on the front lines of climate change. Their contribution to global warming is minimal, notwithstanding Although tourism flights to these areas is significant. Small islands are where tomorrow is happening today. So speakers for these states need to be heard. For this reason this week I’ve paid special attention to this international conference. Sit face some of the most severe impacts of climate change. Yesterday, the Fourth international conference on small island developing states hold its meeting on fostering climate and environmental solutions for resilience. The session looked at how Sid’s can adapt to such impacts and build resilient through climate and environmental solutions to reduce further losses and damage. After the introduction and moderator, spoke to each delegate in turn. Between them, they painted a very clear picture Of being failed, Of being unjustly and disproportionately impacted by the actions of the rest of the ...

Woke up early but stayed in bed until seven. I need Jonathan up at 7:15 so that we can head off to the hospital again today. Jonathan needed a new Dexcom so i fitted one of those first. At 8:10 we set out in the car because the hospital opens at 8:30. We got to the hospital at 8:36. It was very busy in the car park but I found a space. We took a number. Our number was 80. I looked at the screen. They were currently calling the number 50. We were seen at 9:10. I should’ve thought before, but he was dehydrated again by then which means I couldn’t find a vein. So they did take the blood from the arm, which has the glucose monitor on which they normally avoid, but at least they found a vein. Had a sneaky McDonald’s breakfast afterwards. Got home about 10:30. Jonathan is back in bed.

Took Jonathan to his consultant appointment today. The appointment was at 4 o’clock in Stamford. Stamford is 10 miles south of here Jonathan was at school in Grantham. Grantham is 10 miles north of here. So I had to go up to Grantham to collect him, then back past the house down to Stanford with him to see his doctor. I collected him at 2:45 so that he had just finished his fourth lesson before he started his fifth lesson of the day. We got to the hospital about 320 which is just a bit too early. So we stayed in the car for 10 to 20 minutes before going in. We weren’t seen until 440 which was very late 40 minutes after the appointment time. The doctor then decided he wanted bloods but then all of the nurses to do it, had gone home. The dietician he was supposed to see had also gone home by then. So the doctor gave us a form and told us absolutely had to be done first thing tomorrow. This would be missing School again tomorrow wish would’ve the right pain as well as making another ...

I was a research scientist working in a field. In my field, I had a pilot treatment plant. The job of the water treatment plant was to remove nitrate from water. With a standard nitrate treatment plant you get fresh clean drinking water at one end and a waist stream out of the other. The stream contains all of that nitrate that you’ve removed and a lot of salt. The salt is used as part of the process to remove the nitrate from the water to drinking water. I ran out of salt. Laboratory grade sodium chloride. My field was in the middle of nowhere. It was all the road which had no name. Identified the correct road to pull into each day by sign on the road that said mud on road. That’s the closest to my head for the road. So remote was my field that. So I travelled into the nearest town, Which posted a small supermarket. And I bought all of the table salts in the market.

There is, we’ve met my frog before. Boiling frog analogy. Recently, however, I’ve been reading the paper written by Professor Arenas in 1896. This refers to previous scientist who made the link between common and Darkside in the atmosphere and global warming. Before there was John Tindall. John Tindall made the link between car and global warming in 1859. And that is why I’ve been thinking about my frog. Scientists have been attempting to communicate the ability of of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to cause global warming For over 100 years. They must not of been saying it right. Because it all of that time, the message seems not to have gotten through. In 1896 a professor Arenas Presented highly respected paper Demonstrating his scientific findings that carbon dioxide in the atmosphere Will cause warming of the Earth. Examining his data, and correlating it with current knowledge , I find that he has forecast a Warming of 3.6°C at my location on the planet should atmospher...
My tooth fairy lived with bipolar disorder

This week is mental health awareness week. Because I believe that hearing other peoples lived experience can be helpful I have chosen to share my story with you. Looking back, the first clue was the crayons. It perhaps should have been the violence or the drinking. But for me, the defining evidence that my mother lived with bipolar disorder was the crayons . Every time I lost a tooth, I would dutifully put my tooth under the pillow for the tooth fairy . Each time I did so I hoped for a coin . what I received instead was was a giant crayon . This would make my mother giggle herself silly. You see fairies are very small. And the crayons were humorously large. My mother lived with bipolar disorder. Possibly this makes her sound like a fun mum. And if you ignore the disappointment at not receiving any actual cash, These moments were fun mum times. Conversely, though She would have furious agitation, And massive depression. I was exposed to her flights of rage, So one of my earliest me...

Monday mornings are always hard. Jonathan’s Decom finished at 7 am. He needs to leave to catch his bus at 7:38. It was about 728 when he told me. Because his sugars were showing on the graph at seven when I first wake up and check them and then go downstairs and pack his lunch and put out the recycling and do the weeding I hadn’t known there was a problem. It was when I was trying to persuade him to have something to drink or something before going to school, especially as he has PE this morning but he said it stopped working half an hour ago. So this morning I got up got dressed pea carrot, chopped cucumber made a ham and cheese sandwich put it up of grapes rinse the recycling took the recycling to the pavement fix the Decom. Consult with my child About his sinus pain, And Gently persuaded him to go to school. He has peed today, but worse he has three exams tomorrow. Stress I wanted him to understand that this is for when he’ll take his GCSE and was stressed about that which is w...

Write a position 2024 I was very excited to come across the job ahead for the writer position with world of data. I have a lifelong career of research which helps with my terminal curiosity and passion for writing and data visualisation. I have demonstrated this through my PhD research thesis, peer review journal applications, industry reporting, and creative writing. I have worked many years in industry as an innovative scientist and engineer creating data collecting data analysing data and communicating clearly what that data means to my audience. Audience has a scientific background and it’s important that I am able to engage and make the information accessible and that there is evidence that they can clearly understand to base business decisions up upon. Overtime I have moved into leadership and been very honoured to write leadership and authority pieces for a very wide range of publications and a very wide audience. All of my work is evidence based. I enjoy writing with inter...

In defence sustainability The role of defence in sustainability peace, justice and strong institutions Attending a webinar last week has given me great cause for thought. The webinar on defensive aviation net zero delivered by Cranfield university’s Professor Dame Helen Atkinson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the School of Aerospace, Transport and Manufacturing. Was excellent and inspiring. As well as citing the many initiatives delivered and in progress towards NetZero in Defence aviation, The relationship between net zero and economic sustainability was highlighted. In particular, Sustainable development goal SDG 16 was highlighted. That there is a need for defence as well as the other interconnecting elements of sustainability. That sustainability requires not just environmental protection but a thriving economy and defence to deliver peace to allow both economy economic and environmental sustainability. This calls me to look further into SDG 16 Just as the pre...

I have so much done by 0720 that I am bored having run out of things that need doing. Even working people are still asleep at 0720. Now I need to wait up for Jonathan’s prescription s which are due between 0844 and 1104. This can turn into a circus. The insulin must be refrigerated. So it can’t be left ‘in a safe place’ or with a neighbour. So I have to be here for it. I spent the morning on tender hooks waiting for the prescription. At just after 10 am, it arrives. I am packing into the fridge. But unfortunately, there are no needles included and he does need needles. So 10:15 I’m chasing them. I’ve tried to put an order in through the doctors, but they say I can’t order until the 14th of May. I’m speaking to a chat bot.🤖 The chat is excited to help me out. But has gone very quiet.
