Ahead of my time

It seems to me that as a child I was Ahead of my time.

Every morning and wake up and wash and dress and make a cup of tea.

I’ve put the tea into old margarine tub so that I could use it as a carry out when I walk to the station to catch the train to School. I was seven years old so this was 1979 long before coffee shops in Starbucks and people commuting to work giant cups of coffee so I believe I was ahead of my time.

It was a miles walk to the station Which would take me 20 or 30 minutes with my little legs and I’d catch the train at 7:47 in the morning and then at the other end and walk to the school arriving around 830 then wait in the playground for School to open. I’d eat walnuts off the ground that had fallen from the tree that grows over the playground, cracking them open  with my teeth and often I’d  search for somewhere to have a wee because by then, as I’ve been travelling since 715 and I got into School at 9 am, I needed a wee but there was no where. I’d been told they were outdoor toilets that was just for the boys and I went in because there was no one else around, but there was nothing in there and I realise now that I’m a grown up that the boys were going to have a wee onto the floor the concrete. Did want to try to go into the school to use the indoor toilets but I was seen by a teacher and shouted at and forced to go back out again so I didn’t get to have a wee then.

On rainy days as I walked to the school from the station I’d often be splashed by cars driving through puddles, and on days when my sister travelled with me she always make us walk the extra distance to the train station that we otherwise had bus fare for a shorter journey, so that she could take the bus fare for herself and spend it on sweets.

Listening to my anxiety app the therapist talks about getting back to your happy carefree self before you had anxiety and I don’t recognise that as me so I think maybe I don’t have anxiety but I don’t remember ever having a happy carefree self as after all this responsibility was mine from the age of seven.
