Sanctioned
Sanctioned
The case of a man that died at 100 years old who was most recently trialed for sexually abusing and raping children when he was 97 years old but had been tried for the same offence many times in his life underlines the perception, if not simply evidences the fact, that sexual abuse and rape of children is sanctioned by the UK government.
When I was raped as a little girl I spoke to a number of people to report it. in fact I spoke to everyone who would listen to report it. the police did come to my school to talk to me and they decided they would do nothing. Childline decided they would do nothing. I even spoke to the Samaritans and citizens advice bureau and they also did nothing. I reported these offences repeatedly through my life because deep down it feels like it’s wrong to rape children and yet every authority sanctions it, says it’s okay - that is to say they dismiss it and behave as if it is so sanctioned and okay by the actions of doing nothing about it.
Over and over again this pattern occurs. if I was a one off and for some reason I expressed it badly and so not being taken seriously that it will just be me and and other-cases of people reporting being raped and abused as children would result in some kind of action from the police or the courts or people treating them in therapy. so for example I’ve seen many therapists because I cannot get anyone to behave as if it’s wrong to rape children and even my therapist say things to me like well it saves the trouble of having to lose your virginity in later life and what is the benefit of being raped and well it’s a good thing the trauma you experience because it will keep you safe.
A lack of action gives the impression that the actions of the rapists is excepted sanctioned supported by society.
As an adult I trained as a witness support volunteer are trained to help people who are giving evidence in court against people who would write to them or hurt them in another way frightened people victims people have been for a dreadful trauma he would now need to repeat that trauma in a court of law in front of the entire court and of course the offender. I was trying to this job by victim support the charity that supports victims and the police force. I went to the police headquarters for the training as part of his training we were sharing a graph graph was offences committed by rapists against their age and what is known known by the police and talk to us by the police is that rapists never stop they commit their crimes consistently throughout their lives and the only thing that stops them is dying they stop when they’re dead
And yet even when many many victims come forward about prolific rapists they are frequently acquitted. much more often than not rapists are acquitted and even when they are found guilty they are given short sentences, suspended sentences, even a cautions. a colleague I worked with and actually knew quite well, someone who is even touched my child, was found guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl. he got a caution. and he was supported in his defence By my employers our employees his and mine gave him legal assistance. and he received only a caution. many years later this girl was still, as we all are, trying to receive therapy and finally a therapist did something about it. and this man, on the second time being tried for the same crime eventually got five years. which means he almost certainly served 2 1/2 - 30 months. and now he is free to live his life but that girl spent many many more than five years just trying to get some help.
