Starting out
Starting out
The first time you start out as a young person leaving home is at 16 or 18. now I know that like me someone have left 14 but it’s not official and you have to hide that.
So the official step of starting out is at 18, and for me the best way of achieving it was to go to university. Naturally have it started out originally at 14 I was living with a man as my method of survival and naturally I had to leave that relationship in order to go to university. for this he beat me up.
But still I got away to university and that was my way of getting away. I found a room to live in as a lodger with a single mum and her daughter. University accommodation was far too expensive for me; it would’ve cost me more than I could possibly have as an income and I would still need to find money to eat too. So it was an impossibility.
I’d always wanted a driving license and while it would be many years before I could learn to drive I applied for my provisional driving license when I arrived at University.
It required a permanent address and there is a large fine for using anything other than your permanent address on the driving license.
My room, my lodgings, was my permanent address. So that is the address that I put on my driving license. It Was the only address I had.
The second stage of starting out is when you finish with university hopefully having graduated. You now need to find another way of providing yourself with food and shelter. At this point you not only have no money like you did at 18 but in addition you have masses of debt. You have gone from having no money to having negative money. When I graduated I sat staring at the park wondering which bush I would sleep under that night. I opened a bank account with a negative balance negative in the thousands and opened an even larger overdraft facility so that I could live on increasing amounts of negative money. You’ve not only spent all your money worn your clothes to rags And spent years cold and hungry and at this stage you have even less resources than you had when you first left at 18. Obviously work and lodgings are your only options. McDonald’s recruit quickly other employment options may be available.
