3:59 pm June 1 1972
A moment before my existence, the world already existed. It was the first day of summer. And a rose had bloomed in the garden. As I was born in a mid terraced house in a very long row of terraced houses, the garden it bloomed in was small and surrounded by a low brick wall.
4 pm in the afternoon in June in London. Daylight. children are home from school. The day is cool but dry and children play out to expend energy after school. They chalk hopscotch onto the pavement of the street. Where it will not be washed away as there is no rain. washing dries on lines in backyards.
Dad is at home. Dad is hungry. As Ann labours dad eats.
Ann will remain angry about this till the day, she dies.
