This week I need to collect a urine sample from Jonathan to take to the doctors. The doctor is a 15 minute journey each way, so it’s a 30 minute round-trip plus the delivery of the urine sample to the doctors . at the weekend We wrote his options together and last week I attended a parents evening. School is in a different direction to the doctors is a 20 minute journey, each way, so a 40 minute round-trip and an hour or two at the parents evening. He has an appointment with the diabetes team to see his consultant for his annual review on the 8th of February which is in nine days. The diabetes appointment with a consultant is another town again 10 to 15 minutes away so maybe 25 minutes round-trip.  And then on the 22nd of February, he has his eye screening test. This is close to the school. I have to complete a diary for him in the 3 to 5 days for food, blood sugar and insulin for 3 to 5 days before that appointment and I myself have had an x-ray appointment open for the last five weeks I’ve not yet managed to attend  I’ve not been able to see anybody care of my own illnesses and it’s been nearly 2 years since my last dentist disappointment and three or four since my last opticians appointment . I have arranged with my own GP that I will be able to get my x-ray at the same time as I take my son for his diabetes appointment. That at least means that I’ll be attending my x-ray six weeks after my GP requested it but it’s a little harder to put it all in because then I have to arrange with Someone else to accompany Jonathan to his appointment, although clearly I will be travelling there with him , Just going to a separate department in the same hospital at the same time.

Rang diabetes team. Obtained dexcom number. Called dexcom. Transferred to technical services. Transferred back to customer services. Had to go through how many fail and how long they last and error message etc. 20 mins on phone, spoke to 3 people. I should now get a dexcom in time before he runs out.

Dave had to go his heart surgery today. He has spent two days in ICU. I am his next of kin.
