Power to liquid

Image
How do you convert renewable energy into a liquid fuel? Power to liquid is a type of sustainable aviation feel that is synthetic. SAF is produced using the fisher tropsch process. The FT process has been around for a century. Established a century ago. Approved by ASTM. A key challenge on the horizon, however, is binding targets from ReFuelEU Aviation to produce more SAF from more challenging feedstocks, such as biomass residues, and using renewable power and carbon dioxide (CO₂). eSAF is made using PTL technology. The feed stocks are in virtually endless supply as they are renewable energy, solar energy wind energy co2 and water. (In particular, synthetic SAF (also called eSAF or RFNBO-SAF), made using power-to-liquids (PTL) technology, has high potential because the feedstocks (solar and wind energy, CO₂ and water) are in virtually endless supply. ) Combining production of synthetic SAF and bio-SAF can be an enabler for early projects.  Quote PtL is that it can be transported and...

Virtual water and food miles

If The concept of virtual water is to accomplish water equity, and so meet the needs of essentials like food and clothing in regions where water is scarce, it is necessary to transport these products from country to country. An international value chain is a necessity of virtual water. If water Abundant areas are to support water scarce areas by growing foods the needed there in their own regions, and exporting them. It seems intuitive then this would increase the food’s carbon footprint. And that this would be an unwanted byproduct of virtual water. However, the data shows that if we are to reduce the carbon footprint of our food, it is not the distance travelled that matters. For most foods most GHG emissions result from  change of land use and farming. Together these account for  more than 80% of the food carbon footprint. In contrast Transport accounts for less than 10%. So when you consider a whole balance taking into account both water and carbon, It is not the dis...

Virtual Water

How much water is in a cup of coffee? A 30 mL espresso shot requires 140 L of water to produce.  All, but the 30 mil of that is virtual water . often  cited as an example of environmental unsustainability The term virtual water was coined by Professor Tony Allan. Virtual water was the concept put forward by Tony Allen As the method by which  water scares countries like those in the Middle East can secure their food supply. And co  Negate the need for conflict  conflicts of regional water allocation can be reduced or avoided .  A highly principal towering intellect concerned with inequity and injustice. Professor Tony Allen‘s work was complex, inspiring and interdisciplinary spelling geography agriculture, environmental studies, economics, politics, and management.  Virtual water versus water footprint. Virtual water is the water that is hidden in a product or service that you buy and use every day. The water is consumed throughout the value chain which...

Diarrhoea Wednesday, the 19th of June 2024

My son was in as usual, not wanting to go to School mood today So in my head and only in my head, I certainly didn’t say any of this out loud. I suggested that he stayed in the household while I go to school. In my head only in my head, I gave him his tasks 1. Earn enough money to support yourself and any children 2. wake up and check your sons blood sugars. Act on them accordingly. if necessary phone the diabetes nurse team and dig out the testing kit for my son to use 2. Make my son a packed lunch, peel and chopper carrot wash grapes, peel and chop cucumber. How do you spell attention to make sure that the food is the kind I currently want and like?. Today that’s going to involve making sure you have ready an appropriate knife for slicing and sliced bread and slicing it in such a way as it will make a sandwich that will fit into your lunch bag. That’s quite thick. Make sure there’s sufficient filling over above the normal daily filling to match the quantity of bread in the sandw...

Make Jonathan a sandwich peeled in a carrot made cucumber sticks washed and packed grapes Found And cleaned the foot spa. Sterilise the spa Completed  a set of training on trauma healing for mental health. Very interesting it talks about somatic pain not just mental pain and this is something I’ve always thought that surely growing up with trauma means it’s in my body not just in my mind. When you think about how much Jonathan has grow the last three years is body has grown so it’s incorporated the environment over the last three years. I was going to when I was 11 years old which means I hit puberty later I wasn’t at secondary school so I was still a prepubescent primary school pupil. My growing will have been under all of that stress and fear and trauma must be integrated into my body.

Nitrate removal Only water treatment works in Buckinghamshire I investigated the removal innovative technology for the removal of nitrate from water for potable supply. Anyone else enjoying the current round of Doctor Who? Naturally as Dr Bigg, I do associate with the doctor and of course my son is the master. lol 😜  PhD is in electro chemical reduction of contaminated water. I mean, reduction in the chemical sense rather than for example in the reducing the amount of something. sense. In chemistry reduction is the gain of electrons while oxidation is the loss of electrons. Learnt at school as  School as oil rig oxidation is loss reduction is gain. Instead of tardis, this doctor travels in shipping containers Not so much as with a thrum thrum thrum from from as the steady whirring of a Flatbed lorry,  lowering The pilot plant of an innovative technology onto of the unforgiven gravel of a water treatment works. Diary Monday 17th of June 2024

05 50 My day gets busy just before 6 am. I check my bank account and make sure there’s enough money to pay for Jonathan school trips. He has a trip to Walton Towers at £42 and geography field trip to Skegness at £9. His dad doesn’t even have parent pay. He is Going to download it, but of course we’ve just reached the end of the year ha ha. Then I check my gas and electricity energy account with octopus. I am barely incredible, which is a good thing and I check back through the previous ones to see that’s my ongoing payments will cover me for my winter use. I check Jonathan’s blood sugar levels. I check LinkedIn and job opportunities. I Check emails and grocery shopping. Once it is late enough, I’ll put out the bin but probably not before 6:30 as it’s a little on the neighbours earlier than that. I’m investigating Parliamentary candidates so I can make a choices to who to vote for on the 4th of July.

The empowerment of music

Bill made me Jo is about an abused boy Jo who ws raped as a child by Bill, a famous singer. Bill is a rock star and unlike Paul Gadd thevsong is less well known.  The song is empowering for Jo. A therapist once asked me ‘what is the good thing about being raped’ . I have never been able to answer that question. And my inability to find an answer effectively stopped my therapy. Like a failed exam question. It’s been 22 years and I still don’t know the answer. 22 years since the question that is. I always knew that Paul Gaddis songs were about raping girls. Everyone did. How many other children found them empowering like me? They gave me the ability to vocalise my experiences and to be angry about them. Through song, by singing the songs. Loudly and with anger. I had a Gary glitter cassette tape. The format makes the vintage clear. In Swaffham there was a militaristic shop, allowing people to indulge in Nazi flags and badges. I found that horrific. Yet where are the music store...

Jonathan’s prescription arrived today. It’s 25 mg of levothyroxine a day. He’s still asleep at 10:45 this morning so I’ll wait for him to wait before giving it to him. Jonathan’s blood sugars are teetering around the 14 mark. If it doesn’t come down, we’ll have to do a ketone test. We got a follow-up email yesterday from the hospital asking us to reset his ‘my life’ password and username this weekend so I guess we better do that. We is always me, but for Jonathan or sometimes in conjunction with Jonathan. It’s never we as in me and another adult. Ha ha

Diary June 7 2024

His sugars are bad again, eating in the early hours. I asked him and he did eat at 0100. I have scrambled eggs for breakfast, so if you eat something and of course, it is carb free. What is strange about yesterday’s sugars is while there are clear mountains on the chart which match up to meal times so at 1 o’clock his sugars go up to about 13 and then at 7 o’clock they go up to about 20 and then in the early hours of the morning they shoot up to the top of the chart at 22 which is the highest it can record so they were over the level of the chart can record. The thing is, I gave him cauliflower cheese for dinner on Thursday, which is Cab free. There’s about 5 g of carbohydrate cauliflower cheese. So why are his sugars about 20?

Diary June 6, 2024

Today I got two emails from the hospital about Jonathan‘s diabetes treatment. There was also an email from the pharmacy and a phone call from the diabetes nurse. The first was an invite to a piece of software an app called glucose. Glooko. To the hospital to monitor sugars. The second was an email from the hospital to let me know that they sent me happened to give me some instructions as how to use it. I also received a telephone call from the diabetes nurse to review Jonathan ratios. To change his evening ratio for his dinner to 7.5 from 8.5. This way, he’ll be taking more insulin. They also received an email from the pharmacy to let me know that Jonathan has been prescribed levothyroxine 25 mg a day and that should be arriving in the next two days. When Jonathan got home, I’ve fed him a low-carb meal of cauliflower and broccoli cheese and we sat down together to set up glooko. I also told him to change his ratios as per job information to 7 1/2 from 8 1/2 for the evening meal fr...

Insulin

I can only imagine the pain Harold Thompson felt as he carried his dying son, Leonard, into the hospital. It was January 1922 and Leonard was still only 13 years old. Leonard had been diagnosed just over two years before at the age of 11. His illness was terminal and there was no known cure. weighed a frail 29 kg (65 pounds) Leonard drifted in and out of a coma. Hospital staff alikened his appearance to that of a victim of famine. With a distended abdomen, losing his hair falling out, and breath that smelled of acetone [1] desperate to save his son‘s life Harold permitted doctors to inject Leonard with a newly discovered drug that had never before been tried on another human being. While the first injection failed a second, 12 days later, revived the boy. [2] Leonard’s disease was type 1 diabetes. The wonderdrug was insulin .    Insulin had first been reported in pancreatic extracts in 1921, with the  original discovery of insulin from the pancreas of a dog. having ...
