Bio
I am now an asset management consultant for Aqua. Water and waste water is my expertise. My first work for Anglian water and seven Trent water In 1996 soon after graduation. I hadn’t known for sure what I wanted to do with my degree in biochemistry, But the course had covered his treatment, including a field trip to a sewage treatment works and the horrors we saw on site, And I had excelled in physical chemistry, enjoyed marine biology, And appreciated the energy self-sufficient eco-community we visited. Yes they had heat pumps in the 1990s.
That first role In the water industry Was within an industrial facility Which regenerated Granular activated carbon GAC. Initially, my role was quality control involving wet chemistry in laboratory to test the remaining absorption of the used carbon pre-regeneration, and the absorption quality after. It used my standard laboratory skills of titration, Filtration and colorimetry. Later I worked in research both In analytical techniques and in regeneration technology improvements. I worked on a series of methods to improve the outcome of calm regeneration in the eight story furnace on site, Operating a pilot furnace in my research lab. And beyond that, I became a supervisor of the two laboratories and seven Trent water and Angling water. All of this paved my way into my PhD Designing a process for the treatment of industrial waste water effluent.
After 20 successful years in a career in the water industry, I moved into consulting. Starting as a project manager in net zero carbon for a one man band engineering consultancy I built and managed a team of 10. They were all brilliant. But that may have been because I handpicked them. Each and every one of them had a PhD or was writing one up. The work was in sustainability with reduction in carbon emissions, sustainable materials, energy efficiency and biodiversity central to the services.
So next year will mark 30 years with the water industry. Four of them were spent completing a PhD at Cranfield University’s school of water sciences. My PhD was sponsored by an industrial technology company Researching and determining the engineering design for a waste water treatment process for industrial effluent. 3 working as sustainability consultant in a mixture of industries, Including asset manufacturers for the water industry. But encompassing many more and so broadening my knowledge and experience to other industry such as pharmaceuticals construction restaurants and digital service businesses.
