Mum Ann book.
When Anne came to Witham in 1973, she was 27 years old. She was a petite woman with short brown hair and soft hands. She wore the fashions of the 1960s; Slacks and A line skirts And very little make up or whenever she wore cosmetics they were always carefully applied. This may seem like a funny thing to remember about Ann but a certain neatness austerity, compliance with social expectation, adherence to common expectation, in part sums Ann up. She looked like she should have been wearing a miniskirt, but never would have.
Before motherhood, she had been a secretary in the typing pool of a firm of accountants In the city. To clarify for those that don’t know the difference The city is the square mile business district of London, not the city of London is a whole, not greater London - but the Lauded financial District, guarded by griffins.
Good work for a woman as young as she was, especially when you consider how conservative most accountancy firms are…. And you have to multiply that conservatism by 10 when you get up into the city where people don’t like to hire a secretary or unless she’s wearing horn rimmed glasses glasses and a tweed skirt suit.
Ann Was mother to 2 little girls.
