But is something that Irene always said to. Herself. Irene stood 4 foot 11 the same height as her sister. The best things come into all packages was always said with a playful glint in her eye. Her sister would go on to marry a tall hunk towering over her for 5 foot 1. Irene, never did marry. But she does meet the love of her life.

Irene was not unhappy to leave the family home as her mother was now long dead and her father was absorbed by his new family. She stepped out into the cooler with her few belongings and commenced a porn, her journey to her new employment and the start of her next phase in life.

A new king and the funeral of the old king that they had listened to sitting around the radio, All suggested a new phase in life.

Having said goodbyes are in walks alone to Becontree tube station. It has recently been rebuilt and renamed to match the new housing estate so it’s one of the nicer tube stations and it’s really close to home.

1. A Richmond bound train soon appeared and Irene boarded and took a . Seat. Alighting at Earls court Irene changed for the Piccadilly line and take a train bound for Cockfosters. Passing deep beneath London famous West End and alighting at Green Park just one stop short of the famous Piccadilly Circus and a few stop short of their old home at St Pancras Where she had enjoyed the love of her grandmother, but was now a completely changed the area, The grand Hotel, there has been closed, but it seemed like all was a railway station now..  Irene alighted at the Green Park Havingdecided to walk to Charing Cross station To take in the palace, The parks and the mall Down to the river this boarding the train to a final destination of Dartford in Kent.

   
   

   The ticket inspector checked Irene‘s ticket and clipped it. I walked down the platform to the waiting train Clutching her small suitcase in both . Irene slipped as she stepped up onto the train from the platform And fell between the train and the platform. She scraped her legs I was terrified. What if the train started moving? People passed her and paid her no head. No one stopped to help. no one remarked. Irene got herself out. She looked down with herself and her legs were bleeding and dirty. She boarded the train. I was now with a difficult position of feeling hungry, but being in a public place. There was an hour still to Dartford. But polite girls did not eat in public. Instead, Irene studied herself to sit quietly and politely holding her small case on her lap with her ticket ready for inspection.

   
   

   Irene is collected from the station at Dartford in a car and take him to the big house.

   I in no size of it in some awe. And feels a sense of loneliness. She has a small single room shared with one other girl.

   
   

   Later in the year in dartford, there is a carnival. It’s a big day out and they have a special trip down to watch all the floats and the procession. This includes the hospital trolley with two nurses dressed stuff in fizzies and pointy noses and moustaches. 

   At onc they spot a monkey on the roof. The girls shriek with surprise and delighted. And feel a little afraid. It was a big day out as the Queen mother who until earlier this year had been the Queen Queen Mary waves from the band stand. What a huge memory to write home about.

   
   

   Dartford carnival had a memorable incident in 1936 where monkeys escaped and were seen on the roof.A photograph from 1937 also captures children shaking hands with a chimpanzee at the carnival. This suggests the carnival featured animals, including chimpanzees, as part of the entertainment or attraction
