Huntingdon

I’m deeply shaken by the terrible incident on the train between Peterborough and Huntingdon. It is a route close to my heart and community. My thoughts are with everyone affected, especially the victims and first responders.

I am saddened that it took 26 hours - and eight minutes - to stop a man who took a knife to a 14-year-old, before going on to commit this atrocity.

It is great to hear that the last remaining victim in hospital is recovering. I have no doubt that diverting the train to a station with such close proximity to both the police headquarters and the hospital contributed immensely to the efficacy of the medical help provided. I am immensely grateful to all The people that rushed to help - the rail staff, the driver, the signalman, the first responders and the paramedics as well as members of the public.

The response from now must be led by justice, wisdom and in peace.
