A place a day north witham pillbox

Every November, ahead of remembrance weekend, Poppies are placed at the ww11 pillbox on North Witham Road between North Witham and South Witham. The poppies are a tribute to those that died in the first and second wars and all that have given their lives for their country

the hexagonal structure is a true 22 pillbox. It served as a bunker during the Second World War and was built using wooden shuttering. Thousands of pillboxes were built in the early 1940s in strategic positions near rivers, railways and roads to aid any defence efforts during the war. The north Witham pillbox allows observation of the A1 from this position.

Nearby, in the village of South Witham poppies are also displayed around the time of Remembrance Sunday at the village memorial bench
