History

Molly and Ethel Everson who managed a boatyard in Suffolk with their two brothers until 1969. The two sisters managed the chandlery, sail store and the office where the Deben Rowing Club stands and there is now a sculpture near there to commemorate them. Molly in particular repaired sails and worked on the yard, for example antifouling boats. After their parents died, Molly and Ethel lived in a shed behind the yard probably because they had no money and no where else to live. Unfortunately, the shed was washed away but they found a new home in the ‘tin hut’ and Molly grew vegetables and flowers behind it. Eventually, they moved into a flat on the Thoroughfare as the yard was taken over to be developed and they are now buried together in the same plot in the local cemetery.
